Wonderful weather helped make a great turnout of over 150 participants!
More then twenty five people walked from the YMCA and Citizens Bank
in Washington Park, including some of the regular exercisers from
Neighborhood Ministries Minority Health Promotion Center.
Guest speakers included Rilwan Feyisitan, RI HEALTH Office of Minority
Health, Pich Chhoeun of the Cambodian Society of RI and American
Cancer Society, and Senator Juan Pichardo speaking of the value of
an active lifestyle. Many health providers gave out information and
the BCBSRI Wellness Van and W&I Family Van did blood pressure
and sugar glucose health screenings.
Physical activity entertainment included: Step by Step Team and
Soul Line Dancing groups from John Hope Settlement House, an Ishi
Dojo youth martial arts demonstration, YMCA pilates workshop and
Arcoiris Dance Group (HUDO). Kids tried our exercise course, got
their faces painted and juggled with the Providence Circus School.
Maritza Spindler was our terrific deejay.
Our community co-sponsors included: Cambodian Society of RI, Crossroads
RI, Elmwood Foundation, Genesis Center, Greater Elmwood Neighborhood
Services, HUDO, Injury Prevention Center, In-Town Providence YMCA,
McAuley Village, Rhode Island Free Clinic, Transcultural Community
Health Initiative, W&I Family Van
We are grateful also for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island
sponsoring and Citizens Bank Foundation underwriting the 2nd Annual
Broad Street “Path to Health” Walk. Additional support
came from ARAMARK Education, Sodexho School Services and Neighborhood
Health Plan of Rhode Island with donations from CVS, Leo Bonilla,
Panera Bread, and St. Joseph Hospital for Specialty Services.
