English as a Special Language tutoring is available once
a week on Monday evenings from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. This is an all
volunteer
program. Tutors meet with students individually or in small groups
to improve their speaking, reading and writing or to pass their
citizenship tests. Materials and expert advise are available to
volunteers willing to assist neighbors in this area.
Sewing classes are held once a week on Friday mornings from
9:00 a.m to about noon. Neighbors learn the basics of sewing, beginning
with making a pin cushion and a pencil holder. Using donated sewing
machines, fabric and notions, they learn to make clothing for themselves
or their children or even useful quilts. At noon, participants gather
to share pizza in the kitchen.
Cooking and Nutrition classes are offered periodically in
cooperation with Operation Frontline.
