Highlights
Over 90% of our students are completing homework daily, with
the implementation of our incentive awards program.
60% of our students have improved their reading levels and
50% are reading at or above grade level. (Up from 30% last
year.)
A Louie’s Place student who graduated
from Central High School now attends URI!
Louie’s Place open for all school week
vacations and summer vacation.
Eight 14 - 16 year olds served as junior counselors during
our summer program, and received stipends from Allan Shawn
Feinstein and from the Board.
Provided volunteers for Community Food Bank.
Provided volunteers for Annual Postal Food Collection.
Volunteers Honored: Both Doris Randall and Pat Jaehnig received
the SPNM Love Thy Neighbor Award for outstanding volunteer
service and former Board participation.
Took part in Annual Good Friday Walk.
Conducted 156 health education events attended by 4696 neighbors.
Topics included: nutrition, obesity prevention, physical activity.
Also, volunteer fitness Leader Training (6). Youth education
included: asthma, secondhand smoke, emotional intelligence,
safety, violence prevention, conflict resolution, physical
activity (143), WORD tobacco prevention/youth leadership (75).
Youth planned April Healthy Lungs Carnival, Kick Butts events.
Provided 24 diagnostic health screenings: blood pressure (11),
sugar glucose, cholesterol, body fat, joint risk, peak flow,
carbon monoxide, flu, glaucoma, CO monitor (2), dermascan,
stroke risk, spirometry, plus Family Van (3), BCBSRI Wellness
Van (1).
Provided advocacy and referrals for 96 neighbors: prescriptions,
eyeglasses, overdue medical bills, dental, flu shots, car seats.
Organized 3 weekly neighborhood exercise programs:
Latin dancercise, walking, pilates. Summer programs included
weekly walking for
Colony House elders (6) – average attendance 6.5, Summer
Walks (2) – average attendance 13.
Celebrated opening of 3 new physical activity sites/groups:
Colony House, SPNM Healthy Weight Support Group, Volunteer
Fitness Leader Training.
